SMC-BED Wins in Overall Indigay 2017 Literary Events

The Basic Education Department (BED) was declared the overall champion for the literary events category during the Indigay 2017 held at St. Joseph Gymnasium on September 21-26, 2017.

Garnering a total points of 565, BED shows off their wit and skills in literary events as they excel the most among the other five contenders coming from different colleges. Following the overall total ranking of literary events, CED made it to the 2nd place with 484 points and NCAAS won the 3rd place with 475 points. On the other hand, CBA got the 4th place with 375 points, CECS got the 5th place with 345 points, and CHRM got the 6th place with 324 points.

These literary events were the debate tournament, battle of the brains, speech choir competition, declamation, extemporaneous speech, oratorical speech, essay writing in both English and Filipino categories, chain story-telling, and bench cheering.

BED was recognized as the champion in the fields of bench cheering, essay writing in Filipino, chain story-telling, and battle of the brains. They won 3rd place in the fields of essay writing in English, declamation, and extemporaneous speech and got 5th place in the fields of speech choir competition, debate, and oratorical speech.

The BED’s representatives for the bench cheering competition were mainly composed of selected grade 12 students from different strands. For the essay writing in the Filipino category, it was been participated by Mary Rose Jorza of Grade 12-HUMSS. The chain story-telling was composed by Rania Maulana, Jasmine Andrea Ballesta, Juan Miguel Rodriguez, Raquel Mae Oledan, and Lhirry Jhon Demin. The Battle of the Brains was composed by Johair Hadjimustapha Bilao, Lyndon Bernardo, and Stela Diacamos Maglunob.

Kassandra Buenafe of Grade 12-HUMMS was the participant in the essay writing in English, Honey Grace Gaid of Grade 11-HUMMS for the declamation contest, and Suzanne Marie Penola of still Grade 11-HUMMS for the extemporaneous speech.

The speech choir competition was mainly composed of selected grade 12 students from different strands. On the other hand, the debate team was composed of mainly good-willed debaters from grade 12 students, namely, Kass Buenafe as the prime minister, Melit Jane Yu as the deputy leader, and Harriete Dela Torre as the government whip. Lastly, the oratorical speech was participated by Ivan Drake Aballe of Grade 11-HUMMS.

BED shows off how determined they are in aiming to excel in this year’s Indigay by showcasing their sportsmanship in all major category events, specifically, in literary events. True triumph or success in sportsmanship is not merely about being the best. It’s about being better than you were yesterday.

[MSU NEWS] MSU-Main SSG Ratified its By-Laws

  MSU-Main SSG Ratified its By-Laws By Rohaina Dansal   Photo by MSU-Main SSG Mindanao State University-Supreme Student Government (MSU-SSG) successfully presented its ratified Constitutional By-Laws (CBL) on February 16, 2023, at the MSU International Convention Center. A notable change during the presentation is the transition of MSU-SSG to a parliamentary system of governance. The presentation invited all MSU-SSG officers, MSU-Main officials, Colleges and Departments Student Councils, and all university student organizations. According to SSG, the event will engage the invited stakeholders in meaningful discussions that will bring them together.
