Mindanao State University System President, Dr. Habib W. Macaayong, successfully delivered his State of the University Address on October 27, 2021, at the International Convention Center of MSU Main campus and through Facebook Live.

As the 7th regular MSU System President, the State of the University Address signifies the last term of President Macaayong as he laid down his accomplishments and legacy for the past six years of being in service to the MSU Main campus and the thirteen MSU System campuses.

President Macaayong presented the MSU System’s accomplishments beginning with his academic reforms and development. He talked about the recruitment, ranking, promotion, and awarding of tenure to the faculty in the fourteen MSU campuses. He stressed that there were nearly 900 faculty who garnered their deserved promotions over the past six years. He also shared about the extended geographic reach of the system by opening two extension campuses. The first one was in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, and the other one was in Bataraza, Palawan.

“I would like to mention our extension campus in Bataraza. Since the inception of this institution, we have constantly referred to our area of operation and responsibility as ranging from Mindanao and Sulu to Palawan, known as MINSUPALA. But sadly, Palawan has never been part of the picture. Thus, the opening of an extension campus in Palawan is the long overdue realization of the dream,” said President Macaayong.

In terms of administrative reforms and development, President Macaayong stated that quality management through monitoring of faculty performance in terms of efficiency and effectiveness has been carried out more rigorously and methodologically.  He also stressed the massive accreditation of the university by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACUP) and the application of the university for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification.

On the aspect of Research, Extension, and Production, President Macaayong believes that the university boldly changed gears to give more substantive support to the creation of a culture of research to transform MSU into a research university. He stressed that in his first year of tenure, it was where the largest number of faculty were granted travel authority locally and abroad as research paper presenters at conferences. Traditional extension works such as the annual fish stocking of the lake and the continuous research by the College of Fisheries faculty on the conditions of the lake and each various species were also accentuated.

In terms of peace and development, as a national peace university, President Macaayong stressed the new system-wide course, Fundamentals of Peace Education, which was crafted by the university concerning the Marawi siege in 2017 and the increased awareness of the present threat of violent extremism and terrorism, and the urgent need to combat such threat through education.

Moreover, on student development, President Macaayong accentuated the numerous existing scholarship opportunities for the students during his term. He also stressed the distribution of 15,000 laptops for use in online distance learning in the new normal and that the other campuses of the system have also received their share. This is part of the ICT modernization program granted to the university by the national government.

Furthermore, President Macaayong presented all of the infrastructure developments across the different campuses of the MSU system. He also stressed the numerous infrastructure developments of the different colleges on MSU’s Main campus. It includes the recently finished infrastructures and the ongoing construction of buildings as well as the soon-to-rise MSU Hospital and Medical Training Center on the campus. This further includes the rubberized oval track completed through the support of the Philippine Sports Commission.

“I can confidently state that I shall be leaving the university far stronger than I found it,” said President Macaayong. More so, President Macaayong said that there is room for further and more robust growth in the university for the potential of the university for growth is limitless.

“I believe I have earned the right to leave the post with my head held high when my tenure ends,” said President Macaayong in his concluding words.

My SGV Internship Story By Rohaina Dansal While May 2022 was the best month for others like the CPALE passers, it was the contrary for me. I lost two of my loved ones within that month. On top of that, the month of May was the final weeks of our 2nd semester in 3rd year. Things were really busy with all the upcoming exams, research paper defense, and complying requirements. There was even no time to breathe because we had to proceed to our summer classes with full units. During summer classes, while my batchmates were already talking about their target agencies and offices for our OJT requirement in the next semester (August), I didn't even worry about it.  They say when you lose something, God replaces it with good things. During our summer classes, the in-charge professor for our OJT messaged our batch GC an invitation letter from SGV for their SGV NLIP 2022. He said anyone can try to apply on the given link but only 10 will be chosen from our school. Upon reading it, I ignored i...
