Transformational Entrepreneurs Seizes National and International CompetitionsBy Rohaina Dansal

Student innovators or transformational entrepreneurs represented MSU Main Campus in national and international competitions, fostering social entrepreneurship and social transformation with their innovative business ideas and innovations. Some of these competitions were the Enactus-Unilever Topic Competition, the Enactus Business Idea Innovation Challenge, the Singapore International Foundation, and the Hack for Youth Competition.
The project “N’ditarun Tano” champions the Enactus-Unilever Topic Competition in May this year. It is a social enterprise that supports different youth sub-sectors in Lanao del Sur by providing educational and other assistance through peace-building activities and social interventions. The project aims to preserve the Meranaw culture by promoting shirts with authentic Meranaw designs. The project team is composed of Mohammad Shoraym Casanguan, Nairah Tambie, and Nawal Faisal together with their project head, Ammar Cayongcat, and their adviser, Prof. Art Marvin Aranas.
Another winning project is the “BioPhil” which won the Enactus Business Idea Innovation Challenge in 2020. This project is a business innovation in technology that aims to provide a cleaner, cheaper, and more accessible energy source as an alternative to coal by transforming abundant water hyacinth into useful Biomass. The team is composed of Raheemah Hafsah Mamainte, Abdulhalim Ampuan, and Amalhayah Alikhan together with their adviser, Prof. Art Marvin Aranas.
BioPhil also excelled in other competitions and even reached the international stage. It garnered second place during the Intercollegiate Technopreneurship Challenge by QBO Philippines. Moreover, it was held as the champion during the Hack for Youth Competition by Equal Access International – Philippines. Most importantly, it became a global finalist representing MSU during a competition organized by the Singapore International Foundation.
Further winning projects were showcased by MSU students forming different teams who secured the top spots as hackathon winners during the Hack for Youth competition organized by Equal Access International – Philippines. They were the team BioPhil, the team Unawa PH, and the team Project 97.
These competitions were some of those
several competitions participated by the dedicated student innovators of MSU.
These students who are committed to being transformational entrepreneurs are
determined to bring change to the Lanao community. Guiding and mentoring these
MSUan changemakers were Prof. Art Marvin Aranas and Prof. Melba Magandia Angni.
