History was made as Mindanao State University-Main Campus held its 56th Commencement Exercises, the first-ever hybrid graduation ceremony, at the International Convention Center and through an online platform on August 9, 2021, with the  theme: “MSU in the Digital Age, Leading Brilliantly through Excellence in Innovation and Service against Odds and Challenges.”

MSU System President, Dr. Habib W. Macaayong, kicked off the event by introducing Honorable Lord Allan Velasco as the guest speaker of the 56th Commencement Exercises. Mr. Velasco is the current speaker of the House of Representatives and he expressed virtually his congratulatory message to the candidates for graduation.

“As the youngest speaker of the House of Representatives of this millennium, I aimed to bring dynamism and innovation in the process of lawmaking while at the same time, honoring our values like palabra de honor and malasakit.

Now more than ever, we need more young bloods like you, dear graduates, who have malasakit for our local communities. But more so, we need young community champions like you to help the poor and the oppressed so that in our efforts in meaningful graduation,” expressed Mr. Velasco.

It was then followed by the highlight of the event, the recognition of academic excellence awards to the graduating students. The academic honors awarded cover the three semesters. The second semester of the academic year 2019-2020, the first semester of the academic year 2020-2021, and the second semester of the academic year 2020-2021.

Before the affirmation of the MSU System President to all the candidates for graduation, each of the college Deans presented their total number of candidates for each of the three semesters to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Attorney Alizedney M. Ditucalan. Subsequently, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs then presented the total of graduates from MSU Marawi Campus to the MSU System President.

There were 1,141 candidates for the second semester of the academic year 2019-2020, 508 candidates for the first semester of the academic year 2020-2021, and 1,049 candidates for the second semester of the academic year 2020-2021. Overall, 2,698 graduates from MSU Marawi Campus were said to be physically and virtually present in the graduation ceremony.

Campus heads from other MSU campuses also presented their total of graduates to the MSU System President.  There were 575 candidates from MSU General Santos City, 42 candidates from MSU-Buug, 44 candidates from MSU-LNCAT, 16 candidates from MSU-LNAC, 264 from MSU-TCTO, 239 candidates from MSU-Naawan, 269 candidates from MSU-Maguindanao, 273 candidates from MSU-Sulu, 46 candidates from MSU-MSAT, and 388 candidates from MSU-IIT.

The valedictory address was also delivered by Ms. Nur-Hafeiza Jannah Abinal, the batch Summa Cum Laude graduate from the College of Business Administration and Accountancy Major in Accountancy. Ms. Abinal expressed her gratitude to the institution and to all the people who took part in her success. She also shared her inspiring journey and story of excellence as a student.

[MSU NEWS] MSU-Main SSG Ratified its By-Laws

  MSU-Main SSG Ratified its By-Laws By Rohaina Dansal   Photo by MSU-Main SSG Mindanao State University-Supreme Student Government (MSU-SSG) successfully presented its ratified Constitutional By-Laws (CBL) on February 16, 2023, at the MSU International Convention Center. A notable change during the presentation is the transition of MSU-SSG to a parliamentary system of governance. The presentation invited all MSU-SSG officers, MSU-Main officials, Colleges and Departments Student Councils, and all university student organizations. According to SSG, the event will engage the invited stakeholders in meaningful discussions that will bring them together. It will help them strengthen their critical thinking and finalize the said CBL of the organization, which will help protect the rights of the whole campus student body.
