[MSU NEWS] First MSU Online Literary Competitions

First Ever University-Wide Online Literary Competitions

As part of celebrating the Diamond Anniversary of Mindanao State University, the first-ever University-Wide Online Literary Competitions culminated on October 15th and 16th 2021 through online platforms, particularly, through Youtube and Facebook Live.

The online literary competitions were spearheaded by the working force from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities with Dean Elena M. Tabanao as the overall chair and Dr. Eugene F. Torres, Jr. as the co-chair. The University-Wide Literary events were composed of the Filipino category and English category. The streaming of Filipino category entries took place on the first day of the online event while the streaming of English category entries was on the second day.

Participating colleges had sent only one contestant for each of the categories to be recognized as the official representative of their college. Google Classrooms were also utilized to gather the contestants from the different competing colleges. The literary competitions for the Filipino category were Pagsulat ng Sanaysay, Madamdaming Pagbigkas, Tanghal-Tula, and Talumpati. On the other hand, the competitions for the English category were Essay Writing, Interpretative Reading, Oration, and Declamation Contests.

Dr. Anida S. Mustapha, a professor from the Filipino Department, hosted the first day of the presentation of entries under the Filipino category. Moreover, Professor Laylee Norah M. AbdelGafur, from the English Department, hosted the English category on the second day and awarding day of the event. President Habib W. Macaayong also gave an inspirational message to the contestants and their amalgam of showmanship and eloquence in the literary events.

The winners for the Filipino category events were the following. In essay writing, the champion is coming from CSSH. The 1st runner-up is from CNSM, the 2nd runner-up is from CICS, the 3rd runner-up is from CBAA, and the 4th runner-up is from CFES. In the tanghal-tula, the champion is coming from CHS. The 1st runner-up is from CSSH, and the 2nd runner-up is from CSPEAR. In the talumpati, the champion is coming from CBAA. The 1st runner-up is from CNSM, the 2nd runner-up is from CICS, the 3rd runner-up is from CHS, and the 4th place is from CSSH. Lastly, in the madamdaming pagbigkas, the champion is coming from CSPEAR, and the 1st runner-up is from CSSH.

On the other hand, the winners for the English category events were the following. In essay writing, the champion is coming from CSSH. The 1st runner-up is from CBAA, the 2nd runner-up is from CED, the 3rd runner-up is from CNSM, and the 4th runner-up is from CSPEAR. In the interpretative reading contest, the champion is coming from CSSH. The 1st runner-up is from CBAA, the 2nd runner-up is from CNSM, the 3rd runner-up is from CSPEAR, and the 4th runner-up is from CPA. In the oration contest, the champion is coming from CED. The 1st runner-up is from CHS, the 2nd runner-up is from CSPEAR, the 3rd runner-up is from CBAA, and the 4th runner-up is from CPA. Lastly, In the declamation contest, the champion is coming from CED. The 1st runner-up is coming from CSPEAR, the 2nd runner-up is from CBAA, and the third runner-up is from CSSH.

  JPIA MSU-Main Seizes Online Partnership Opportunities By Rohaina Dansal   JPIA MSU-Main graced partnership opportunities with other JPIA local chapters and organizations. [MSU NEWS] MSU-Main SSG Ratified its By-Laws

  MSU-Main SSG Ratified its By-Laws By Rohaina Dansal   Photo by MSU-Main SSG Mindanao State University-Supreme Student Government (MSU-SSG) successfully presented its ratified Constitutional By-Laws (CBL) on February 16, 2023, at the MSU International Convention Center. A notable change during the presentation is the transition of MSU-SSG to a parliamentary system of governance. The presentation invited all MSU-SSG officers, MSU-Main officials, Colleges and Departments Student Councils, and all university student organizations. According to SSG, the event will engage the invited stakeholders in meaningful discussions that will bring them together. It will help them strengthen their critical thinking and finalize the said CBL of the organization, which will help protect the rights of the whole campus student body.
