Joseph R. Biden was elected the 46th president of the United States of America, defeating and ending the term of President Donald J. Trump. Despite the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans still managed to practice their right to vote in their presidential election on November 3, 2020. The election results revealed that Biden, from the Democratic party, has garnered 306 electoral votes which is 51.1% or 80,117,578 of the population while Trump, from the Republican party, has garnered 232 electoral votes which is 47.2% or 73,923,495 of the population.

Biden’s victory in the state of Pennsylvania, declared on November 7th, four days after Election day, made him the projected president-elect of major media networks in the United States as he garnered more than 270 Electoral College votes which is necessary for a presidential candidate to win the race.

This year’s US Presidential election had not been a piece of cake due to the very tight race between Trump and Biden. Trump declared his false claims in his Twitter posts that he won the race before the final results of the election which was then flagged by Twitter. And when Biden became the president-elect, Trump refused to concede and claimed that the election results were fraudulent.

Due to the current pandemic, other voters have preferred to vote through mail-in ballots which also became controversial. This voting method takes longer time to tally than the usual and regular voting process. The crucial votes were observed in certain states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona. But Biden got the majority votes from some important states where Trump won during the 2016 election.

Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election is history-breaking. He is the first-ever president-elect in the United States who got a massive number of votes for a presidential position. At the age of 78, he is also the oldest president to be elected in the history of America. His vice president, Kamala Harris, also won in the election and her victory is also a milestone. She is the first female, first Black American, and first Asian American to be elected to the vice president position.

Biden and Harris will inherit some major issues left by the Trump administration such as controlling the COVID-19 pandemic in America especially since they are the number one leader in the world to have the most cases of COVID-19. Biden will also inherit a divided country because of the close race between him and Trump where the voters’ population was almost divided. America is also blatantly divided today because of important issues like racism, climate change, and economic fairness. But Biden stated that he is ready to face these challenges and ready to serve America.

Biden stated during his prime-time victory speech. “It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, to lower the temperature, to see each other again, to listen to each other again, to make progress, we must stop treating our opponents as our enemy. We are not enemies. We are Americans.”

Biden was born in Pennsylvania on November 20, 1942. He started to be a senator at the age of 29 and served in Delaware for three decades. His first wife and a 1-year-old child died in a car accident in 1972. His two sons who survived the accident were left to him. And on 2015, his son, Beau Biden, died at the age of 46 due to brain cancer. Moreover, he served for eight years as the vice president of Barack Obama in which they became good friends. He tried three times to become the president of the United States starting way back in 1988 and in 2008. And now, he achieved what he had dreamed of, to become the president-elect of America.

The US Presidential election is important to the world. It is not only the Americans who kept an eye on the presidential race. Whoever becomes the president of America may have an impact on the world. This may involve America’s role in terms of some major issues such as foreign relations, racism, immigration, terrorism, inequality, and climate change.

Biden and Harris are expected to be officially in service and will have their inauguration in January 2021.

[STORY] My SGV Internship Experience

My SGV Internship Story By Rohaina Dansal While May 2022 was the best month for others like the CPALE passers, it was the contrary for me. I lost two of my loved ones within that month. On top of that, the month of May was the final weeks of our 2nd semester in 3rd year. Things were really busy with all the upcoming exams, research paper defense, and complying requirements. There was even no time to breathe because we had to proceed to our summer classes with full units. During summer classes, while my batchmates were already talking about their target agencies and offices for our OJT requirement in the next semester (August), I didn't even worry about it.  They say when you lose something, God replaces it with good things. During our summer classes, the in-charge professor for our OJT messaged our batch GC an invitation letter from SGV for their SGV NLIP 2022. He said anyone can try to apply on the given link but only 10 will be chosen from our school. Upon reading it, I ignored i...
